A Nippon Gakki grand piano is a Yamaha grand piano built in Japan before 1987. Nippon Gakki (which translates to “Japan Musical Instrument Manufacturing Corporation”) is the original name of the YAMAHA CORPORATION. Highly sought after for their durability and warm tone, these pianos are recognized by an iron-stamped “Nippon Gakki” logo inside the piano or on the cast-iron plate.

• Historical Name: Before the 1980’s, the parent company was officially called Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. before being rebranded simply as Yamaha.
